Singapore is a city-state in Southeast Asia. Its area is 714 km2. It comprises 64 islands, the main one Pulau Ujung (584.8 km2). This island is densely urbanized, but lush vegetation even in the city center in Singapore has earned the nickname “Garden City”. Singapore is located on an island at the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula, separated from it north across the Strait of Johor, south and borders the Strait of Singapore. After independence in 1965, Singapore has managed to become, with very few natural resources and important socio-economic issues – race riots, mass unemployment, housing problems and access to water – one of the the most developed and prosperous countries in the world in terms of economy, education, health, security and urban planning. The city, sovereign city is a Chinese reduced the heart of the Malay world: the population consists mainly of Chinese (76.8%).
